WinDVD creator is really fine for doing this. If the video is from a DVD, DVD decrypter is the best.

Ulead is good..TMpgnec
But for newbies just use windows movie moaker..it comes as standard with your pc!

Can someone recommend me a good software for splitting wmv files? I have tried several programs but none of them are capable of handling wmv files. I would just need to clip 30 mins off from a file. Thanks in advance.

to split wmv... I think TMPEG dvd author can do this
