Would you buy a bootleg if you had no other means of getting it?

I think I would, but just some bands bootlegs.

Generally no, but maybe if it was unreleased, like direct from the taper and is put on eBay. That happens quite often actually. I've never bought bootlegs, but I have considered it a few times when I saw one with a really great cover. :P

Yes, have to admit that i have done that once. On a local music store(!) a couple of years ago i wondered why Nightwish had released yet ANOTHER live dvd again...Bought it and didn't realize that it was a bootleg before months after :P The cover sucked too(did make one myself but is one of my first(and sucks) covers so i'll have to re-make that one someday, and upp the dvd on dime but have to learn how to remove official stuff first...). I must admit that i'm looking extra good on the dvd section after that ;) And if i find something and find it a musthave i will again. But ebay: NEVER!!! Doesn't even use it. Much easier to dl from great torrent sites and just get whats in reach from there and forget about the rest until somebody put up the lovely word: LIBERATED BOOTLEG

BTW: The most interesting topic for a long time ;)

As a general rule, no freaking way. In addition to being a terrible practice for all the obvious reasons, you NEVER know what you'll end up with. MP3 sourced, incorrect labelling (i.e. that rare show you've been looking for for ages turns out to be a different venue, date) are just a couple of concerns that immediately arise when other people sell stuff.
Btw, if you're into Tool (as I am), beware of ebay auctions for the Sober - Tales From the Darkside live CD. It was a Euro-only release (Dutch, I believe) and is basically the Tales From the Darkside bootleg in addition to the studio version of Sober. An awesome collector's piece but there are several people on ebay (or the same guy under different names) that makes his own copies. Not worth having.

If I were interested in collecting silver pressed bootlegs I might, I know people who do. But I am not all that much into it to purchase bootlegs.

it would seriously have to be something that blows me away. and something that would never get released in a store or by the taper.

other than that...... no.

I bought a few from a record store back in the 70's when they came on vinyl. I would never buy a CDR/DVDR boot
